The consortium is defined by the current grant agreement, so the four partner institutions are fixed for this project. We do welcome contact from institutions interested in collaboration, joint activities or future partnerships — use the Get involved form and select ‘Institutional partnership’.

Maastricht University is the lead partner and coordinator, holding overall responsibility for project management, financial management and reporting. Each of the four institutions nominates a key contact — you can find them all on the Partners page.

Four universities across two continents: Maastricht University (Netherlands, coordinator), Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), Somali National University (Mogadishu) and East Africa University (Somalia). The Federal Ministry of Health Somalia has also taken part in project activities.

Only academic staff and students at SNU and East Africa University, selected by the consortium partners, can take part in the Training of Trainers programme, which is organised in the first two years of the project. Further cascading takes place in the final year. If you are interested, please contact the responsible project key contact person at your institution — they are listed on the Partners page.

Rather than training a small group abroad and stopping there, CURIOUS multiplies knowledge deliberately. Staff who complete the international Training of Trainers programme train colleagues at their own institution, and those colleagues are in turn expected to train and guide others — so capacity keeps spreading inside SNU and East Africa University rather than staying with a handful of individuals. The cascading training held in Mogadishu in August 2026 is one example of how this works in practice.

CURIOUS is a capacity-building project working through institutions rather than a scholarship scheme, so it does not admit students directly. Its benefit reaches students through modernised curricula and better-trained teaching staff at SNU and East Africa University.
